Weiser
A group of landowners are
working with U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife
biologists Carmen Thomas and a whole host of volunteers to
help the endangered southern Idaho ground squirrel.
Working with private land owners is particularly important
to the squirrel since the majority of the reintroduction
habitat is on private land. Ranchers such as Joe Hinson of
Soulen Livestock Company, have opened up their land to the
release of the squirrel. These landowners are also
partnering with the Fish and Wildlife Service to restore
ground squirrel habitat and native vegetation.
