Northern Virginia

Leslie Sturges is a park naturalist and a bat enthusiast. Through the Bat World Rescue Center, which she founded, Leslie has conducted hundreds of bat educational programs throughout the Northern Virginia/Washington D.C. Metropolitan area. The endangered big eared bat is the focus of her education in Virginia. She hopes her education will help the recovery of this often misunderstood creature by changing its image from that of a scary and disliked animal to one which people are enthusiastic about saving. Already it seems to be working. In Fairfax she works with the nature center to host bat fest which started as an annual event but which now happens four times a year.
